Many people dream of having a lake or fishery on their land – a place to unwind and relax amidst the sights and sounds of nature at its very best. On the other hand, some businesses or organisations opt to have a lake constructed on their land to add interest and financial desirability to the area in which they operate. Whatever your reason for designing a lake, we promise to help and support your project from start to finish.
The key elements to lake design
All new lakes and waterscapes normally begin with a meeting with us and the client to discuss the possible options and to have a good walk around the proposed lake site. From this point, we are able to provide a written budget plan that will show the costs involved and clearly show at which point of the lake build payments will need to be paid. The next stage can then include a topographic survey of the lake site, from which a site plan can be formed, as well as design drawings to demonstrate the lake and any specific construction details that may be of importance. Hydraulic models may also need to be developed to help understand what can happen with water levels and flows during flood conditions. Information such as this is then used to design the overflow structures that the lake will require.
At this stage the original budget plan can be reviewed and a finalised quotation is usually issued for the agreed work plan.
Why design a lake?
From the initial talks and ideas, to the design, applications, right through to the building, planting and stocking of the lake – Ponds UK – Aquatic Management Limited can design a lake to your requirements and in keeping with the surrounding environment. The design process is not solely about drawings for a lake layout. It involves the full geometry of the land and lake bed and also entails the design of the finished product, this includes the planting stages that ultimately give the lake its stable environment, which it will need to thrive, making this process quite important.
These images give an understanding of varieties of lake projects and designs that Ponds UK – Aquatic Management Limited are involved with. This is one of, if not the most important stages of any lake design project, in which we work closely with our clients to iron out any creases and piece together the final design for their desired lake.
Working in 3D as well as 2D, as we would for standard geographical work, helps provide a picture of the finished project. If the client has no background in this field or perhaps wishes to keep clear records from start to finish, this is a great way of achieving those goals.
We supply all the necessary equipment and our services to both domestic and commercial clients throughout the United Kingdom.
