Bathymetric Water Surveys

Lakes, ponds, reservoirs and rivers around the UK can become shallow and eventually dry out due to the build up of silt. Silt is formed because of debris from all sorts of sources, which includes, leaves, fallen trees, decayed aquatic plant life, fish or animal waste and other things such as soil washed in by streams and rivers to your pond, lake or waterway. As this build-up continues it becomes necessary to remove this silt by means of dredging with mechanical equipment or by some other means.

The first stage of any silt dredging project is to establish exactly how much silt will need to be removed. This calculation is required to establish both the best means of removal and to help understand where best to place the silt after removal. From silt samples and a Bathymetric survey.  it’s possible to establish the consistency of the silt, which gives a guideline to the time frame required for the removal process.

At Ponds UK – Aquatic Management Ltd we use the latest technology to gather the required information about silt, this is done in one of two ways;

  • 16ft Manned Survey vessel
  • Remote Survey ASV Drone

Both options achieve exactly the same results and are able to give detailed information about the lake, pond, river or sea bed. Other information will be provided by the survey, for instance information about hard materials, such as  stone and rock and softer areas such as sand etc.

Where a the manned survey boat requires an access point the ASV drone is easy to lift between two people and access requirements are minimal. In some situations the drone is also able to auto-navigate the waterbody and complete its own surveys where visual access to the entire waterbody is impossible. The ASV drone has been a huge benefit to many of our clients and is exceptionally good in areas where little disturbance is nessesary.

Using GPS enabled equipment, we are able to generate a full report, which can clearly identify the problem areas and enable us to accurately produce quotations to carry out the clearing of unwanted silt from ponds, lakes, rivers and canals.

We supply all equipment and our services to domestic and commercial clients throughout the United Kingdom.
